In early 1990, the Kansas Automobile Dealers Worker’s Compensation Fund (“KADWCF” or “the Fund”) concept originated out of a need to offer KADA members a viable alternative to traditional Worker’s Compensation Insurance due to the rising premiums charged by conventional insurance companies.
KADA began exploring the concept and the related requirements over the course of the next year, which concluded with the completion of a comprehensive feasibility study that was presented to the KADA Board of Directors. The KADA Board concluded that there was sufficient member interest to proceed with formation of the Fund. In the spring of 1991, a Board of Trustees was formed to address legal and formation details, select a service administrator, and request member enrollment commitments if the Fund formation application was approved by the State of Kansas. In July 1991, the Fund’s application was submitted to the Kansas Department of Insurance, which granted approval to commence business on September 15, 1991.
The Fund commenced operations with 11 charter members and has since grown to insure over 70% of the Kansas motor vehicle dealers. Over this time, the Fund has operated under sound and conservative principles and with a long-term focus of providing cost effective worker’s compensation insurance coverage and responsive claims management to the motor vehicle dealers of Kansas. The Fund also lends support to the fiscal operations of the KADA, whose staff diligently seeks to protect member investments as well as anticipate and respond to dealership needs.
The Fund operates under the direction and oversight of the Board of Trustees* with operational service matters handled by its key service providers (AON Risk Services; Alternative Risk Services, LLC.; and Cook Consulting Co.), all of whom are committed to preserving and maintaining the Fund’s long term financial viability.
